Senior Process Engineer - Specialty Chemical Manufacturing

About the Role
Join a global specialty chemical manufacturer as a Senior Process Engineer leading a transformative automation program and high-impact capital projects. This role offers full ownership of design and execution for a multi-phase $7M automation upgrade, plus future process improvements across the Americas.
You'll combine process engineering expertise with automation and safety leadership, working closely with corporate engineering, site operations, and external integrators. Expect visibility to senior leadership and a clear path for advancement.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead multi-phase automation projects from concept through commissioning, ensuring seamless integration with ongoing operations.
- Develop and update P&IDs, process control manuals, and trip/interlock schedules for compliance and safety.
- Collaborate with control engineers and system integrators on HMI design and centralized control room implementation.
- Manage capital projects ($5-$7M), including phased funding requests, contractor oversight (mechanical, electrical, controls), and schedule adherence.
- Conduct process safety reviews and ensure compliance with global standards and high-hazard protocols.
- Influence stakeholders across engineering, manufacturing, and vendor networks to deliver projects on time and within budget.
Qualifications
- Degree in Chemical Engineering
- 10 years in process engineering within specialty or fine chemicals manufacturing (batch or continuous).
- Proven experience in plant design, build, and commissioning, including automation retrofits.
- Strong understanding of process safety systems, interlocks, and regulatory compliance.
- Hands-on approach with ability to deliver work independently and through contractors.
- Excellent communication and leadership skills; comfortable operating in a corporate environment.
- Willingness to relocate to Salisbury, NC; occasional travel within the Americas.
