Job Description

General Summary

Well established commercial general contractor seeking qualified candidates to join their estimating team to assume the roles in the front line of projects i.e. preconstruction stage.

Required Skills and Responsibilities

  • Prioritize service to clients and posses the ability to manage client expectations on preliminary and hard bid pricing;
  • Ability to manage quick turn-around, and understand the level of (estimating) detail required on a project-to-project basis;
  • Ability to pay attention to details to ensure full scope coverage in bids;
  • Efficient work ethics to be able to manage multiple projects at once;
  • effective team player to ensure that consistency between projects estimated within the team;
  • Ability to work on projects in Office (Downtown, Class A) and Industrial sectors. Familiarity with K-12 (HISD, AISD, etc.) bidding process preferred, but not required;
  • Proficiency in MS Office, and knowledge in On-screen take off preferred;
  • Perform all project functions and responsibilities in partnership with the company's culture, corporate vision, ethics and code of conduct.

Key Responsibilities

Preconstruction Services

  • Understand and manage on client expectations, based on site conditions and unusual contractual obligations prior to pricing;
  • Attend pre-bid or pre-construction meetings and organise site visits for subcontractors as required;
  • Carry out Value Engineering to assist clients in meeting their budgets in the most effective way.

Project Estimating

  • Review RFP, drawings, specifications, building requirements and any other special requirements necessary to formulate a comprehensive scope of work;
  • Identify list of trades and issue out to the relevant subcontractors to obtain pricing;
  • Identify any discrepancies and request clarifications to ensure submission of valid and compete bid;
  • Review subcontractor's proposals to ensure full scope coverage and close off any gaps in pricing/between trades;
  • Ensure timely completion of estimate;
  • Maintain an open line of communication with the clients, subcontractors, project manager and team members to ensure full transparency on project;
  • Conduct formal project hand-off meeting with project management department for each project;
  • Maintain project folder per company guidelines
